On the face of it Blundstone boots, the durable, solid and practical style worn by the likes of farmers, tradies and chefs and around since 1870, seem an unlikely choice for princesses. Yet you’d only need to consider how almost every other genre of deeply practical and ‘ugly’ shoe, from Crocs to Birkenstocks, has been subverted to realise that of course this would happen.

Princess Kate is definitely a fan of the Australian boot, sporting its elasticised side Classic 550 Chelsea Boot on at least two occasions this year alone. The princess, whose tramping-through-muddy-fields-in-the-country style is unparalleled, often pairs the brown style with her beloved skinny jeans, a cream roll neck knit and a waxed jacket.

The royal isn’t the only famous fan of the boots, as Page Six noted, they’ve been worn by Emma Watson, Lily Collins and Daisy Edgar Jones to name a few. They suit a muddy festival as much as they the utilitarian heft of them would anchor a puffy dress. who doesn't love a juxtaposition of tough and pretty?!  Also if you’ve watched Yellowstone and found yourself hankering to dress like a cowboy these would make a fine alternative to cowboy boots and they work especially well with jeans.

According to an article published in the New York Times earlier this year, the Blundstone boot may well be the boot of the ’20s. As Max Berlinger noted in the article, “After years of an unpredictable pandemic in which many people sought comfortable, versatile clothes that didn’t compromise style, it seems that Blundstone’s Chelsea boots—a shoe free of laces and buckles—may be what fashion historians point to as the boot of the early 2020s.”

As Berlinger points out too, the 150 year-old boots have recently been recommended everywhere from GQ to New York Magazine’s The Strategist and in 2021 Blundstone was named by the trend forecasting company WGSN as a “brand to watch.”

The boots come in a range of colours and styles, including the Chelsea, the 1637 heeled boot and the lug-soled 2238 Lug Boots.
