With summer on the horizon, it’s time for a wardrobe refresh. H&M’s stylist reveals her tips for dressing to impress – at a bargain price.

Affordability and style are key when it comes to trawling chain store fashion websites for a well-priced outfit.

Swedish retailer H&M has had bricks and mortar stores here for six years but is now selling its clothes online to Australian customers.

We asked stylist Rosie McKay, founder of personal fashion website My Virtual Stylist, to put together three on trend summer outfits with a strict price point – $100 or under. McKay says many shoppers still associate the fashion chain with a younger demographic but the brand has diversified to include classic cuts for an older demographic.

“Once upon a time they catered for a younger audience, but now they have a great range of clothes for any age group and all body shapes,” she told SMARTDaily. “I traditionally shop at a store like H&M to buy affordable pieces that can help refresh my classic pieces so something that picks up the colours and silhouettes of the season. It’s a great way to refresh what you already own.”

When it comes to this season’s key looks, McKay said “it’s about a pop of bold colour teamed back with neutral tones.” H&M offers a Pink Puff Sleeve Shirt that does just that.

Also a bold dress with an exaggerated silhouette, like H&M’s blue kaftan, will keep you on trend.

Finally, McKay says the one trend that isn’t going away is a statement shoe, like H&M’s Pink Kitten Heels.

“I would be adding a pair in a bright colour or embellishment to my wardrobe. That’s a key piece that makes over more simple pieces like white T-shirt or a pair of jeans.”

With fast fashion under the spotlight because of its detrimental impact on the environment, the global chain has also made a commitment to make all its products from recycled or other sustainably sourced materials by 2030.

Online shoppers can now also see in what country the product was made and the factories it was made in. “Quality is very important to H&M. Our business idea is fashion and quality at the best price in a sustainable way and it is paramount to us that our quality not only meets, but exceeds our customer’s expectations,” said the brand’s communications manager Lauren Ormaechea.

The Swedish chain is also offering 20 per cent off first purchases and free returns to customers who sign up for their loyalty program. But use the size guide online to help you get the right fit.
