Carrie Bickmore secretly wore Crocs under Project desk for a week and now loves them

Carrie Bickmore has revealed she’s become a huge fan of an item dubbed “perfectly ugly” after hiding them under the Project desk while she works.

Tommy Little roasts star’s ‘ugly’ shoes

Carrie Bickmore has declared her love for a controversial footwear item – revealing she’s a huge fan of Crocs.

The journalist was challenged to wear a pair of the infamous plastic clogs by her TV and radio co-host Tommy Little. It came after the hosts both admitted they “hated” the bulky item during an interview on The Project with the brand’s Australian ambassador, singer Georgia Flipo, known professionally as G-Flip.

Later, on their radio show, the conversation continued, with Tommy posing the challenge for both of them to complete.

Now, after a week of wearing the $69.99 shoes everywhere she went – from the school drop-off to doing the groceries and even under the desk while presenting The Project – Carrie has had a change of heart.

“I became one with the Croc and I became quite proud of wearing the Crocs and I didn’t justify them to anyone,” the mum-of-three said on the Carrie & Tommy radio show.

Tommy wasn’t quite as convinced as Carrie, losing the challenge by removing the striking rainbow shoes, G-Flip’s collaboration with the footwear brand.

“I’ve been on stage every night this week wearing my Crocs and I’ve noticed there’s a real sense of anticipation in the audience that I don’t usually have,” he said.

“It feels like there’s a balloon waiting to burst, and at each gig I’ve had to say about five minutes in, ‘You’re wondering about my Crocs aren’t you?’”

While Tommy rocked his on stage, Carrie was forced to wear hers when hosting the Channel 10 panel show – but she was able to hide them under the desk.

By Day 3, Carrie was posing in them while wearing a blue and white dress that complimented the colours perfectly.

Meanwhile Tommy appeared to be less enthusiastic, removing them on day five ahead of appearing on stage at the Big Comedy Showcase where Carrie was making her stand-up debut.

Despite saying he “loves” the chunky footwear, removing the shoes – dubbed “perfectly ugly” by critics – lost the “Croc-off challenge” resulting in a $5000 donation to Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer charity.

He also had a tattoo inked on his foot by G-Flip in one of the of a retro symbols that appear on the limited-edition shoes.

Tommy had previously asked the singer to “sell him” the idea of Crocs during her appearance on The Project, asking: “What do I not know that you know about Crocs?”

“Have you ever tried a pair of Crocs on Tommy?” G-Flip asked, to which he said “oh no” while shaking his head.

“That’s where you’re going wrong,” she continued.

“They’re so comfy. If you get some dirt on them you can just get the hose out, wash them down. They float in water if you lose them in the surf. They’re the best shoe.”

However Tommy remained firm, describing them as floating in the water because the ocean thinks they’re “sh*thouse”.

G-Flip isn’t the only star who loves them, with Justin Bieber, Post Malone and Drew Barrymore all collaborating with the boat shoe brand.

On Tuesday, Justin Bieber released his second pair with the US brand. The $79.99 shoes were a joint venture with clothing company, drew house, and sold out globally in less than 30 minutes.
