Brownlow red carpet 2022: Best looks from AFL’s night of nights

Former reality star Tayla Damir stole the show at this year’s Brownlow event – with her gorgeous gown causing a stir on social media.

It’s the highlight of the AFL calendar each year – but while the prestigious Brownlow Medal is only awarded to one player, it doesn’t stop every attendee from pulling out all the stops.

Players ditch their team colours in favour of slick suits while the wives and girlfriends commandeer attention with their glitzy outfits.

This year, the event was held in all its glory for the first time since 2019 at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium, and had a strict dress code.

While men are required to wear full “black tie suits”, women have been instructed to wear “evening gowns”.

Among the sea of famous faces that walked the red carpet on Sunday evening there was a clear fashion trend – with many women opting to wear gowns with daring thigh splits.

Leading the way was reality star Tayla Damir who is engaged to Richmond player Nathan Broad.

The former Love Island Australia winner stunned in a white Cappellazzo Couture gown with a split that finished at the top of her right thigh.

The gorgeous gown also featured a huge bow that sat on her left shoulder as well as having a second bow at the back.

Fans of the Myer ambassador were quick to praise Tayla’s “stunning” ensemble, leaving a stream of comments on her candid snaps taken before the event began.

“Divine,” one wrote, while another sad: “Mic drop.”

As another declared the look “outrageous”.

Tayla wasn’t the only WAG who rocked a sexy split at the big footy bash, with Brit Selwood wearing a nostalgic chain mail dress that clung to her body.

The gown, also by Cappellazzo Couture, showed off Brit’s blossoming baby bump after she and husband Joel – the Geelong Cats captain – announced last week they were expecting their first child.

Brit’s “breathtaking” outfit was styled by celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson who shared a series of snaps of the mum-to-be in all her get-up.

Lana revealed Brit had worn clear and silver shoes from her own collection as well as an array of expensive jewels from Shannakian Fine Jewellery.

“This is so beautiful,” one social media user wrote, while another described the look as “iconic”.

Julie Neal, also wore a dress with a split, making the ball gown design a popular feature on the 2022 Brownlow red carpet.

The mum-of-one – who is married to 2020 Brownlow Medal winner Lachie Neale – wore a flowing royal blue gown designed Chosen by Kyha.

As well as featuring a strapless bodice, the flowing train was sheer and glistened as she walked.

Another showstopping outfit on the night was Indiana Putra, the partner of Jeremy Cameron, who wore a bright pink puffed dress to the event.

Josh Dunkley and Adelaide Thunderbirds netball superstar girlfriend Tippah Dwan were also at the party, with Dawn dazzling in a gold Zian Couture gown.

Carlton’s Patrick Cripps – who won the 2022 Brownlow Medal – and fiance Monique Fontana also glistened on the red carpet.

Monique wore a royal blue gown with a plunging neckline adorned with gold detailing from Georgia Young Couture.

Earlier in the night, Melbourne Demon’s superstar Christian Petracca and partner Bella

Beischer oozed glamour, with Bella being spotted in a white gown with a side split.

Other standout gowns included Lizzie Stock – the partner of Andrew Brayshaw of the Dockers – in a beautiful pink number and Miss Universe Australia runner-up Annalise Dalins in a racy cut-out dress.

Annalise, the girlfriend of rising star Josh Daicos, wore a custom white dress from Oglialoro Couture that flashed her midriff.

The white gown also had a cut out detailing on her upper chest as well as long sleeves and a high-neck.

In the past, WAGs have pushed their fashion choices to the limit with one of the most iconic looks to date arguably being Rebecca Judd’s plunging red gown from late Perth designer Ruth Tarydas.

The mum-of-four – then known as Rebecca Twigley before she married retired footy legend Chris Judd – made her debut at the event in a very revealing gown in 2004.

The neckline dipped below her belly button, while the back of the dress was even lower, showing off outline of her buttocks.

In more recent years, Julie Neale stunned in a sheer frock with a hip-high split and glittering embellishments.

Despite its shimmering details, the $7000 dress – originally designed as a wedding gown – was a trendy “naked” number which meant at first glance it looked as if Julie wasn’t wearing much at all.

Her bold gown raised eyebrows, but the “naked” gown trend is still as popular as ever as they show maximum skin while still remaining covered.
