Aldi releasing $30 hooded blanket in July 9 Special Buys

The budget supermarket is set to release a “dupe” of a popular winter item - but its version is much cheaper than the expensive brand.

Supermarket giant Aldi is set to release its own blanket hoodies — with a design strikingly similar to the wildly popular Oodie.

Aldi’s snuggle hoodie is part of a Special Buys release on sale July 9 and comes in a variety of styles including pink, charcoal or with cats or dogs.

But, there’s a particular design that appears remarkably similar to the Oodie, printed with avocados with smiling faces.

The items are just $29.99 - much cheaper than Oodies that retail for $84, a reduced price from $109.

Aldi has also produced a kids’ version costing $10 less than the adults’ style. It comes in a myriad of cute designs such as panda bears and puppies.

The Aldi product boasts that it features ultra-soft fleece with warm sherpa lining and is machine washable.

Meanwhile, Oodie lists similar benefits on its website and says its products are also machine washable.

“Every Oodie is made from toasty-warm sherpa fleece on the inside and buttery-soft, Toastytek™ flannel fleece on the outside,” the website says.

“You’ll feel like you’re hugging 1000 adorable pug puppies!”

Oodie founder David Fogarty has responded to Aldi’s release, saying he’s confident customers will come back to “the original Oodie”.

“While it is flattering to see our trademarked Avocado design bring inspiration to big retail chains, we are confident customers will appreciate our premium product quality and want to support an Australian business by shopping the original Oodie,” he said.

Several businesses have released their own hooded blankets in time for winter this year, including Typo and Big W.
