A woman who was ordered by her boss not to wear a particular dress to work has shared a picture of the offending outfit online.

Lindsey Nicole, 25, who lives in the US, posted the now viral photo of herself wearing the dress her boss didn’t think was work-appropriate.

“So my boss told me to ‘cover-up’ now that we have a man in the office,” she wrote.

The long floral dress goes below the knee and has capped sleeves.

Lindsey added that the office had previously been full of women before the new hire started, but now that there was a man around, she was told she couldn’t keep wearing the dress to the office.

“I have worn this dress once a week since I’ve started in February. It has never been a problem. My office code is business casual. What is wrong with this?” She asked.

The post on X amassed more than two million views and thousands of comments.

Despite the dress being modest and unrevealing, a considerable conversation erupted online.

There were plenty of people on the young worker’s side, someone went as far as to say they were “pissed” on her behalf, another said it was “misogyny”, and one wrote that her boss was being a “jerk.”

But some people were arguing that the dress wasn’t okay to wear to work because it showed too much cleavage.

Someone wrote that their “knee-jerk reaction is that I don’t think this is business casual” but added they were “concerned” she’d been told to stop wearing the dress because of a man’s presence.

There were also other women commenting, saying she was being unfairly singled out because of her breast size.

It also became clear that no one could agree on what is or isn’t business casual for a woman.

Unfortunately, because the internet is the internet, instead of people discussing whether her dress was appropriate for work, the comments quickly descended into chaos.

The conversation became less about workwear and more about Lindsey’s body, to the point that she addressed the backlash in a separate tweet.

“The only thing I’m saying about the post is that it’s so funny for people to think I’m so bothered when they call me a fat b*tch. I am! It’s a fact! It doesn’t hurt me! I am laughing at all of the comments,” she wrote.
