IN bittersweet news for foodies, beloved cafe Easy Tiger Burleigh is shutting up shop this Sunday … but they’ll say goodbye with a day of free doughnuts.

The eatery’s famous buttermilk doughnuts will be flying off the shelves for gratis on Wednesday to thank customers for their support.

The cute cafe collab from hospo pros Nick James, Shane Graham and Robert Morwood opened in late December 2019, but it was always going to be for a good time not a long time.

The historic Old Burleigh Arcade that houses Easy Tiger will be redeveloped into a multimillion-dollar modern residential tower.

“We knew it was a short-term lease, and it’s been really fun,” Mr Moorwood said.

“We just really want to say thanks to our customers over the time we’ve been open.”

Mr Moorwood said there was no catch to claim a free doughnut and encouraged people to “just rock up and say ‘gimme, gimme, gimme!’”

While Mr Morwood closes the Easy Tiger door in Burleigh, he opens a window with a new business at the Boatshed in Currumbin set to open on December 27.

“We decided to finish up Easy Tiger now so we can really focus to get the new business open just after Christmas,” he said.

Sydney-based Weiya Holdings intends to build the De-Luxe apartments on the site, a 14-storey, 36-unit complex named for the old cinema that was once housed in the arcade.

The arcade’s heritage facade will be preserved in the process.
