THOUSANDS of Christians from more than 85 churches are expected to turn out for a massive Easter celebration after the venue was moved to Broadwater Parklands.

Easter United will be held on Easter Sunday — April 21 — at the parklands after Mayor Tom Tate backed its move from last year’s venue — the HOTA Amphitheatre at Bundall.

Cr Tate said the venue change meant the Easter celebration would be free to the community and would be able to accommodate double the number of people at last year’s inaugural event.

Cr Tate said Easter United would provide locals with an important focal point at Easter and an opportunity to celebrate together the most important event on the Christian calendar.

The event will be presented by Juice Media (Juice 1073), a not-for-profit Christian community radio station.

This year, it will again run from 4.15pm-7.45pm.

It will start with a traditional worship celebration led by a team of clergy from Anglican, Lutheran, Uniting, Orthodox and Catholic churches, as well as a church school choir.

The evening celebration will be led by a team from Baptist, Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Hillsong, ACC, C3 and Independent churches from 6pm.
