The daughter of actors Sean Penn and Robin Wright put on a cheeky display at New York’s star-studded Angel Ball in a seemingly simple black gown.

Dylan Penn put on a cheeky display at New York’s star-studded Angel Ball in a figure-hugging black gown with a low-cut back detail.

The model and actor – who is the daughter of Sean Penn and Robin Wright – seemingly kept things simple in the black halter dress.

When she turned to the side, however, Penn revealed its low cut-outs on her backside, imitating a G-string.

The exposed thong (or ‘whale tail’) trend of the noughties has returned to ubiquity this year in both red carpet and street style.

Sometimes called a “longhorn”, the sartorial decision is when the strings of a thong peak out above the waistband of the pants – and has been embraced by the likes of Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber and Kim Kardashian.

Penn paired the look with a messy updo, black patent leather shoes, and delicate silver jewellery.

The 32-year-old is the eldest of the former celebrity couple’s two children, who were married between 1996 and 2010.

Penn told Vanity Fair last year she’d describe her style as “casual, comfortable [and] simple”.

“Less is more [is my style motto]. Also remain classic over being trendy,” she said.

“Nothing is worse than looking back at old photos of yourself when we took the trends a little overboard, so you want to dress and pick pieces that are timeless.”

In a separate interview with InStyle, Penn said the advice was imparted on her by her famous mum “at a young age”.

“I’m all about comfort. When I wear something physically uncomfortable, I become insecure and don’t feel like myself.”
