Celeste Barber sparks rush for $49 dry skin item

The Instagram satirist turned influencer shared the winter skincare product she’s “obsessed” with – prompting a frenzied reaction from fans.

She might be famous for her hilarious take on celebrity Instagram posts, but Celeste Barber is also now a bona fide beauty influencer.

After raving about a new $49 beauty balm last week she sparked a (virtual) rush for the product, causing the brand to sell one per minute as skincare devotees got their hands on the dry skin fix.

Launched last week, ModelCo’s Face Glow Skin Perfecting Beauty Balm is a three-in-one primer, serum and moisturiser – and at $49 it’s a steal compared to pricier versions.

ModelCo ambassador Celeste posted about the product on her Insta stories last week, saying she was “obsessed” with it.

“It just kind of plumps my skin and makes me feel like a real fancy lady,” she said.

“See how it makes me look like I deserve all the really nice things in life?”

Sydney eyebrow queen Kristin Fisher also posted about Face Glow on her Instagram, saying the balm was “epic”.

“I trialled it before it hit the shelves and can safely say it’s a wonder product,” she wrote.

ModelCo founder and CEO Shelley Sullivan worked with skincare formulators directly to come up with Face Glow after suffering with rosacea, irritation and dry skin.

“Beauty can be overwhelming, so women are always asking me, ‘What is the one product I need to buy?’ So I set out to create a one-stop-shop skincare product that would become everyone’s secret weapon,” she said in a statement.

‘Celeste effect’ sparks frenzy for Woolies product

Back in February – shortly after she was made an ambassador for both ModelCo and its sister brand, MCoBeauty – Celeste sparked a mad rush for another product.

After sharing an Instagram post calling MCoBeauty’s XtendLash tubular mascara the “best I’ve ever tried” shoppers couldn’t wait to get their hands on it.

Within hours of posting her top tips, Celeste had sent hordes of shoppers to Woolworths where MCoBeauty is stocked – resulting in shelves being wiped out.

Earlier this year when Celeste posted about MCoBeauty's mascara she started an absolute frenzy.

“People are going crazy over our new products,” MCoBeauty creator Ms Sullivan told news.com.au’s The Beauty Diary at the time.

“We’re getting feedback that people are going into Woolworths and the stock has already gone, so our product and warehouse team have been working around the clock to make sure the shelves are restocked as soon as possible.”

While she might have risen to fame for satirising celebrities on Instagram, Celeste has become an Instagram star with plenty of pulling power herself.
By April, three months after being announced as the ambassador for ModelCo and MCoBeauty, retail sales for MCoBeauty totalled $6 million, the Australian Financial Review reported.

This equated to a 518 per cent increase in sales at Woolworths and a whopping 2000 per cent spike in sales via MCoBeauty’s website.
