The first high-end restaurant to reopen after restrictions

A PRESTIGIOUS Coast restaurant is frantically preparing to light up the grill this week but dealing with new COVID-19 restrictions is downright “confusing”.

Moo Moo Wine Bar and Grill is suddenly reopening for Friday lunch thanks to a state government announcement on Sunday.

As of noon yesterday, 20 diners at one time are allowed to dine-in at restaurants, cafes, pubs, registered or licensed clubs, RSL Clubs, hotels and casinos.

Moo Moo Wine Bar and Grill owner Steven Adams said government approved COVID SAFE Industry Plans, which will allow 20 patrons per defined area from Friday 5 June, seem a “nightmare”.

“The government hasn’t released the details yet but the application seems really confusing,” he said.

“I am glad to be reopening earlier than my initial date of June 12 but I am still disappointed with the numbers.

“Whispers around town thought it would go to 50 straight away but 20 here and there is stressful to work out.”

Mr Adams said organising staff, ordering premium steaks and finishing off renovations in under five days was going to be hectic.

“It will be a race to the finish line but I am excited to serve up a two-course lunch and three-course dinner that encapsulates the true Moo Moo’s experience on Friday.”

Subject to further planning and reviews, interstate travel and a maximum of 100 people per venue will be allowed from July 10.

Robina Pavilion’s Damien Stephen commended the government for their approach.

“It’s clever and cautious,” he said.

“It’s happening faster than I expected.”

Like many restaurateurs, Burleigh Pavilion owner Ben May wants to fast-forward time.

“This experience has been quite painful,” he said.

“I cannot wait to see a my balcony full and alive sometime soon.

“I think we will all appreciate normality.”
