Every Aussie knows the fear of eating near a bin chicken all too well.
Not only are they hideous to look at, they also won’t accept any form of boundary between them and the food they want - even if it’s in the hands of someone who just bought it.
To combat people coming and asking for a refund after their food was stolen by an ibis, one Brisbane food venue has come up with a creative sign, and it’s got everyone sharing their stories.

“The birds don’t work for us”
An Aussie Reddit user has taken to the platform after spotting a unique sign up at a fish and chip shop in Brisbane.
The sign was directed at people unfortunately targeted by the dreaded ibises, who are known to frequent the area to try and nab a freebie or two.
“Once the food is given and a bird took it there will be no refunds,” the sign said.
“The birds don’t work for us.”

No refunds??
Commenters on the post thought the sign was just funny enough to make the situation - that your food has just been stolen AND you can’t get a refund - feel a little lighter.
“is this sign deliberately written in this manner to be funny? I commend them on their humor i find it quite funny ha ha ha tip of the hat sire,” said one commenter.
“its probably meant to be funny but also like..they probably would've lost a lot when people screamed ‘bin chicken too my food’,” said another.
“that's just what someone in collusion with the bin chickens would say,” a third joked.
It happens to the best of us
But, many more took the opportunity to share their own ibis horror stories.
Some said it was things they saw happen to others.
“we were sitting at that exact spot with friends when an ibis tried to swipe a whole sandwich out of her toddler’s hand from behind them. This was years ago,” said one commenter.
“[I saw] a foreign student in hysterics as a Bin Chicken wolfed down an entire sausage roll bigger than its head in two seconds flat inches from her screaming face,” another person said.
But, others said it was them who copped the brunt of the ibis.
“I took my food over to a table and held the cup of chicken chips in my hand as I ate one. I glanced away for a split second, with my hand still holding the cup and partially covering the food. And in that time at least a dozen ibis descended upon the paper cup of chicken chippies and demolished it before I could even pull my arm out of the fray. They flew away as quickly as they'd appeared,” shared one commenter.
“I put the empty cup into the bin and shamefully made my way back to the counter to buy a new cup of chicken chippies. It was so embarrassing as a local.”
“20 years ago a Southbank bin chicken stole my entire subway sandwich out of my hand! While I was holding it the not so sneaky bird just flew up grabbed it with its beak and started shaking it, in shock I let go. Lettuce everywhere,” another person added.
