Big W shoppers left scratching their heads after spotting $940 product

"How is this here?" someone asked after spotting the unusual buy. So is it legit?

Big W is known for their affordable clothing and accessories and its budget-conscious dupes of high-end items.

However, the retailer has seemingly pivoted their offering now and is directly selling designer items, with some even priced as high as $949.

Eagle-eyed shoppers recently spotted genuine Gucci products in the Big W Marketplace section of the site, which lists items from third-party sellers.

The unexpected designer items

Many questioned the legitimacy of the products, which included wallets and perfumes and whose prices ranged from $135.50 to $949.

The items include six perfumes and a variety of men's and women's leather wallets (the latter of which are now sold out.)

Going for a cool $795 was the Gucci Women’s Interlocking GG Leather Small Wallet in red and the Gucci Women’s Bifold Interlocking GG Leather Long Wallet in black for $949.

The same products are also sold for similar prices at online retailers like Catch and My Deal.

"Way to devalue the brand"

One shopper spotted the unexpected buys and shared them to the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group, sparking a wave of reactions from others who were equally as confused.

"Way to devalue the brand," one claimed, while another wrote: "$940? Just because it's Gucci?? Wow."

"Is this an April Fool's joke??" someone else questioned.

Another said: "Great price! Costco occasionally sells designer things, too."

Gucci isn't the only designer brand sold on the Big W Marketplace. Chanel No 5 perfume is also for sale for $500, as are YSL and Dolce Gabbana perfumes.

While these sorts of products aren't remarkably cheaper than their RRP, customers will be able to earn Everyday Rewards points when they shop, so there's a perk!
