Yamagen, QT
7 Staghorn Ave, Surfers Paradise
Yamagen’s striking izakaya-style bar and dining room is the perfect place to whisk mum away from the everyday for a lunch to remember.
Executive chef Adam Lane has created an indulgent omakase (translation: “I’ll leave it to you”) set menu so she doesn’t even have to decide what to order.
The courses include the much-loved thinly sliced snapper, house-made gyoza, spicy popcorn prawns, lamb cutlets, crispy pork belly and more. The price of $74 a person includes a special gift for all mums. Bookings are essential.
The Collective
1128 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach
The Collective has Mother’s Day sorted. The five restaurants and rooftop bar cover all food and beverage hankerings and the co-op is taking bookings for lunch or dinner. Events manager Belinda Houlihan says an optional upgrade will get mum a bottle of sparkling rose and a handwritten card. “We can also organise a beautiful bunch of flowers from our fiends at Florist on Fifth Palm Beach on your behalf,” she says.
If your mum is more a cocktail kinda gal, she’s welcome to join a fun and interactive cocktail lesson with bartenders in The Garden from 2-4pm. Any creations can be taken back to the table to enjoy. There’s no need to book for the cocktails, but bookings are essential for lunch and dinner.
Fellini Ristorante & Bar
Marina Mirage, 74 SeaWorld Drive, Main Beach
No one quite looks after their mammas like Italians do. With its sweeping Broadwater views, Fellini is one of the special occasion dining gems on the Coast and this Sunday, all mothers will be treated to a glass of prosecco.
“Festa della Mamma is the most celebrated day in Italy after Christmas and Easter,” co-owner Carlo Percuoco says. “Taking mamma to lunch is the custom and it’s the most popular day of the year to dine out in Italy.” Fellini fills fast for Mother’s Day lunch and dinner so it’s recommended to book early.
O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards
852 Lamington National Park Road, Canungra
If you’re looking to make a day of it, O’Reilly’s Canungra Vineyards is offering a choice of two Mother’s Day dining experiences a picturesque drive from the Gold Coast. They’ll provide a hamper with all the trimmings — gourmet cheeses, cured meats and bubbles — for a picnic on the banks of Canungra Creek. Or, for something a little less back to nature, a three-course Mother’s Day lunch is being served on the homestead veranda or in the garden marquee overlooking the vineyard, with mums receiving a glass of sparkling on arrival.
“We love Mother’s Day here,” Vineyards project manager Jane O’Reilly says. “There’s a carnival atmosphere and we’ve got lots of room for kids to stretch their legs.” There’ll be live music and children’s menu choices too.
The Green, Novotel
Surfers Paradise Boulevarde and Hanlan Street, Surfers Paradise
If your mum isn’t the country getaway type, the Novotel in the heart of Surfers Paradise offers the perfect vantage point for a Mother’s Day high tea in the midst of all the action. The newly-refurbished On#5 Rooftop Green is serving afternoon high tea especially for mums, with a glass of Australian sparkling or French champagne for those who don’t mind a tipple at teatime. Events manager Dannielle Watts says the high tea towers will be stacked with jam and cream scones, petit fours, elegant finger sandwiches, savoury delights and an array of desserts and pastries, all specially selected by the chef. Tea will be served from 2-4pm.
