YOU may have known it as the Waterlife restaurant and bar — now it’s the aptly-named Quarterdeck with plenty of exciting changes.

The Gold Coast City Marina venue was given an overhaul and reopened about three months ago as Quarterdeck — along with a menu and decor overhaul is the addition of pastry chef Freya Craig to the staff.

She bakes all the cakes, muesli and muffins fresh on site while their prawns and bugs are bought straight off a trawler which pulls up on Friday mornings.

The big brekkie is a struggle to get through in one sitting — but have a go if you’re starving and wash it down with a coffee supplied by Southport’s very own Silipo Coffee roasting house.

Quarterdeck manager Jo Liakatos says among the breakfast favourites on the menu is the smashed avocado with poached eggs on sourdough bread with grilled bacon and dukkah on the side.

It’s a spot favoured by not just the tenants at the marina but families, ladies who luchh and local tradies.

“We also have a lot of people who just pull up by boat and park for free and come in,” Jo says.

But you don't have to be a boatie to enjoy this place — even if you’re not there is something soothing about the serenity of breakfast on the water.
