Fish and chips are a sacred Australian dish, but who fries the best on the Gold Coast? Nominations are now open for the best fish and chips in the region and we want to hear from you.

Nominate your favourite fish and chip shop with its name and suburb its located in before nominations close on Monday, February 11 at 10am.

The nomination shortlist will then be put to a vote on the same day, with the poll available to be voted on for a week before we tally the points and reveal the winners in Gold Coast Eye on Saturday, February 23.

Here are a few nominations to get you started:

Last year’s winner Fresh Coral Seafood believe the best way to serve fish and chips is to order the sea fruit in whole and fillet on site. Owner Platon Kaplanidis has been in the seafood business for 24 years and has owned the shop in Mudgeeraba for 10.

The secret ingredient to the perfect crunchy, salty meal from Benowa Gardens Seafoods is the high quality, natural oil its cooked in. Co-owner Mel Parkes says she’ll never reveal the oil they use so others do not copy their success.

A professional seafood cooking teacher and trained chef behind the fryer makes for a tasty time. Owners Simon Scott and his wife Buffie are particular on quality and technique, and they also offer a healthy alternative to chips with brown rice and salad.
