SANTA ditched the sleigh and jumped on a surfboard at Currumbin Alley today.
The big man in red and his helpers hit the waves to spread some Christmas cheer among the locals.
Almost 100 people joined in the festivities for the second annual Alley Christmas Surf Day event, which was started as a pre-Christmas “catch up” for surfers last year.
“We’ve got a really good community down at the Alley,” organiser Jack Ivers, 24, said.
“It’s sort of like our Christmas party.
“It was pretty unreal, we had a massive turnout.”
Mr Ivers said surfers “went all out” with their Christmas costumes with some donning beards and full Santa outfits.
One surfer strapped a Christmas tree to their board, while others wrapped themselves in tinsel or dressed up as little elves.
“It was all going on,” Mr Ivers said.
“ ... Someone mentioned that if it (the event) got any bigger (next year) we should try to raise some money and put it towards a good cause.
“But for the moment it is just some fun.”
Surfer ranged from eight to 80 at the event which kicked off at 5.30am.
