A POPULAR Northern NSW beach has become a no swim zone after numerous sharks were spotted in a feeding frenzy with a dead whale carcass this morning.
Professional surfer Laurie Towner was offshore in his boat when he noticed the sharks mauling the whale carcass at Angourie near Yamba.
The Yamba local posted the video on social media and warned surfers and swimmers not to paddle out at the popular surfing break while the carcass is nearby.
“Warning! Do not surf the point or anywhere around home right now,” Towner wrote.
“Just had an epic experience watching a couple decent sized whites chopping into this whale that just missed washing up on the point just now!”
The video has gone viral online, with renowned surfer Kelly Slater suggesting that now would be the best time to surf.
“Probably the safest time to surf,” Slater wrote.
“They know they want that whale blubber and not some skinny surfers!”
