A MYSTERY surfer who yesterday scored three barrels on a single wave at Greenmount on the Gold Coast has sent social media into a frenzy.
The unbelievable amateur ride was awarded Wave of the Week by surfing website Coastalwatch — putting professional surfers to shame just one day after the city hosted the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro world tour events.
Coastalwatch editor Mike Jennings said they were now on the hunt for the surfer who is believed to be named Lachlan O’Neill.
Videographer Craig Halstead captured the surfer tucking under one barrel and continuing along under two more in a stellar display of surfing.

Mr Jennings said the quality of amateur surfers was improving so rapidly that “average joes” were starting to beat the world’s best.
“One week a video of Josh Kerr smashing Kirra could win and the following week a no-name surfer will score a ripper,” he said.
“It’s the nature of surfing. You don’t have to be sponsored or on the world tour to get great waves.”
