Man rescued after boat capsizes on Northern NSW coast
A MAN stranded on a capsized boat off the Northern NSW coast this morning refused to leave his boat when emergency crews came to his rescue.

A MAN stranded on a capsized boat off the Northern NSW coast this morning refused to leave his boat when emergency crews came to his rescue.
The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter was tasked to the overturned boat around 9am after a flare was sighted about 2 nautical miles north east of Cudgen.
The occupant of the boat was found clinging to the hull but declined to be winched into the rescue chopper.
Point Danger Marine Rescue unit commander Glenda Ashby said a private vessel turned the boat back over, before taking him aboard until Marine Rescue arrived.
“The owner of the distressed vessel wanted to go back to Cudgen Creek, so we watched them safely cross over the bar at the creek.
“It was a job well done by all involved.
“But we do remind people when going offshore to contact their Marine Rescue NSW unit and radio through all information about the vessel, how many people are on board, the expected time of return and other important details.
“It’s vitally important if something goes wrong and then makes the rescue process a lot easier.
The man was believed to be unharmed.
“We did our bit, and we’re glad to see he’s safely back inside, and a family has their loved one home again.”
