TEN people have been rescued and two are in hospital after a hectic day on Gold Coast beaches.
About 13,000 beachgoers were braving choppy and windy conditions to soak up some sun rays and have a splash in the waves, keeping lifesavers on their toes throughout the day.
A 40-year-old was transported in a stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital after he “swallowed a lot of water” at the patrolled swimming enclosure at Southport’s the Broadwater Parklands about 11am.
In a bizarre event, a woman was also transported to GCUH after her finger was caught in a folding beach chair.
A Surf Life Saving Spokeswoman said the injury was severe enough to require transportation.
“The finger was still intact, but it sounded quite bad,” she said.
“The woman had lacerations to her finger after it got caught in one of the beach chairs.”
Four people were also pulled from the surf at Southport this morning including a 20-year-old female who was swimming outside the flags.
Lifesavers responded on boards and tubes to bring the women to safety.
A 4-year-old and an 8-year-old were rescued from the Southport Broadwater parklands after coming into trouble in the water.
Two teenagers were rescued at North Burleigh and a 40-year-old male was pulled from the water after being caught in a rip around 4:30pm.
A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesman urged beachgoers to always swim between the flags.
