Fishing and diving report for the Gold Coast and Tweed Heads, January 2, 2014

GOLD Coast and Tweed Heads fishing and diving report with Paul Burt.

FISHING:

Offshore: A bit of wind later in the day. Best to get out early for mackerel not around in large numbers. Try Mermaid and Palm Beach. Black marlin around the 24s and 36s off the pin and wide Burleigh.

Seaway: Big eyed trevally around Bundall Bridge at night run out tide and Monaco Street entrances. Good size jacks in the mid reaches and Railway bridge. Also try Bond Uni flood gates for flathead and bream.

Jumpinpin: Mud crabs lower reaches of the Logan River. Bull sharks from Marks Rocks upstream. Whiting northern end of Tipplers channel and the entrance to Jacobs well channel.

Paradise Point: Big mud crabs in the canal systems of Runway Bay and Paradise Point. A few female in the mix - throw them back. Try for jacks Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island walls. Australian bass up near the Weir. Sand crabs Bayview Harbour.

Tweed: Tailor around the end of southern wall. Try around Lucius and the Spit for dart and sea bream. Been a few whiting near the golf club and the tick gates - not in large numbers or size. Try for bass Murwillumbah reach. Jacks at Tumbulgum Bridge.

DIVING:High tide 9.46am. Swell SE in the morning moving to ESE but only around one metre. Winds north 16 knots. Water temp 19d. Visibility around 8 metres. Seeing dolphins.
