A GOLD Coast luxury boat-building giant has gone to the next level splashing out on a flash new on-and-off water display showroom.
In a sign of the luxury end of the market’s further recovery from the Global Financial Crisis, Maritimo has sunk several hundred thousand dollars into the waterfront showroom at a prime spot at Sanctuary Cove.
The company will showcase about $10 million of its latest vessels at the Sanctuary Cove Marine Village facility at any one time.
It has berth space for up to 10 boats.
The centre, officially unveiled tonight by Mayor Tom Tate, includes a full working replica of the galley of Maritimo’s latest cruising motor yacht, a 70 footer, which will be used for celebrity chef demos and masterclasses.
Maritimo founder and Australian boat industry icon Bill Barry-Cotter said the company was manufacturing more larger luxury yachts than before and had outgrown its Runaway Bay showroom.
“The larger end is where we have found a niche and we are doing very well with that,” Mr Barry-Cotter said.
“Once it was finished I was impressed with the facility and the public will be the same. It’s a really up-market fitout.”
Maritimo’s space at Sanctuary Cove, measuring 133sq m and overlooking the main marina, has been leased for five years.
It joins luxury car brand Mercedes Benz which has a neighbouring boutique showroom at Sanctuary Cove.
Mr Barry-Cotter said it would allow Maritimo to put on an unrivalled display at the annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) each May.
Maritimo CEO Garth Corbitt said the new Maritimo Sanctuary Cove centre was a continuation of the company’s corporate expansion strategy and global plan to boost the brand.
“SCIBS is a major event on the world boat show calendar and attracts people from around the globe so our new facility will position us at the front and centre at that important event.
“And it gives us a prime base to showcase our products the rest of the year,” Mr Corbitt said.
At the end of last year, he reported Maritimo exports in the 59, 65 and 70-foot range had soared 400 per cent compared to 2015.
Maritimo, which employs 150 craftsmen and subcontractors locally, now has 40 dealership partners across five continents.
Sanctuary Cove general manager Stephen Anderson said he was thrilled to have Maritimo join Mercedes Benz as another “prestigious” tenant in the village and it would enable the boat builder to “capitalise on leads every day of the year”.
