Aussie mum goes viral with shopping mistake we've all made

“I’m like, ‘Surely I didn’t do that’. My groceries were like $200, that’s pretty standard...”

Cheeseburger potatoes

Ordering your groceries online is supposed to be the easier way to do things.

Not only are you saving time not perusing the supermarket aisles, you probably save money on impulse purchases, too.

But, of course, accidents happen, and it’s left one Aussie drowning… in ham?

“Surely I didn’t do that…”

Aussie mum Sharni has taken to TikTok sharing the simple mistake that ended up with her being the proud owner of a whole lot of ham.

“So I did my groceries, Click and Collect like I always do, and I’m just unpacking them now and I’m like ‘What the hell is in the bag with all the cold stuff?’” she said.

“I pull out this giant bag from the deli. It’s 2kg of ham!”

Sharni said she couldn’t believe how wrong it went, spending two dinners’ worth of grocery money on ham alone - and somehow not even noticing.

“I’m like, ‘Surely I didn’t do that’. My groceries were like $200, that’s pretty standard,” she said.

“Surely if it cost me $52 for ham I would have realised that my groceries were expensive. Nope! No. I ordered $52 of ham.”

Then, the realisation hit - what on earth would she do with 2kg of ham??

“Can I take that back? Is that a thing?” she said.

“The deli worker wrapped a SINGLE chicken wing”

Despite how odd the experience seemed to her, commenters quickly assured Sharni that she’s not the only person who’s done it.

Some accidentally ordered way too much.

“I bought 6 bags of 2kg potatoes before instead of 6 potatoes haha,” said one person.

“A girl at work once ordered 20kg of pears instead of 20 pears,” another added.

And others, far too little.

“During covid I thought I ordered 1kg of honey soy chicken wings but I accidentally put 100g and the way I died laughing at the fact a deli worker wrapped a SINGLE chicken wing,” one commenter said.

“One time I thought I'd ordered 250g of twiggy sticks, but actually put 25g, and they wrapped up a single twiggy stick for me lol,” another said.

“Freeze most of it!”

As for whether or not she could return it, commenters suggested it wouldn’t be such a great idea, instead offering up suggestions of how she could make use of what felt like a lifetime supply of ham.

“Portion it into separate containers then freeze most of it,” said one person.

“It doesn’t matter if you're making pizza or cooking it in something,” another agreed.

“You can make a stack of ham and cheese sandwiches for toasties and freeze them? The ham will freeze well too,” said a third.
