A good discount is always good to find. But, would you still take it if the reason seemed a little… sketchy?
An Aussie mum has taken to social media to share how her husband got a 50% discount on an item at Bunnings, encouraging other parents to see if they can take advantage of it too.
But, the reality is that there may be far more to it.

“Because he said it was for his daughter, they gave it to him half price”
Aussie mum Montana Older has taken to TikTok to share an odd experience her husband had at Bunnings.
In the video, she said that her husband purchased a kids tool kit at the retailer for their daughter, originally priced at $50.
But, that’s not what he paid.
“My husband got this… 14-piece, little kids tool kit for my daughter, and because he said it was for his daughter, they gave it to him half price,” she said.
“This is $50, and he was like ‘Oh it’s for my daughter’. The lady took him to the front, and said ‘Just give it to him for $25’.”
Montana thought that the interaction was extremely odd, despite encouraging other Aussie parents to see if they could cash in on the loop hole.
“I don’t know what to make of that! Why, because she’s a girl, is it half price?” she said.
“If anything, it should be the same price. Isn’t that what we’re fighting for?”

“Maybe she was into your husband?”
Commenters on the post agreed that it all felt a little fishy, conspiring that it had less to do with their daughter, and more to do with the staff member’s crush on her husband.
“Maybe she was into your husband?” one person said.
“Possibility she was flirting?” another agreed.
“I’m going to go with that she was probably into your husband,” said a third.
“Could have been leftover Christmas stock!”
But, according to some former Bunnings staff members, there may be a little more to it.
They said that the item was likely Christmas stock or on clearance, allowing them to dock the price in order to get rid of it. Some even said the discount was already in place at other locations.
“We are allowed to mark down items that are low stock or stock that we are trying to get rid of,” said one employee in the comments.
“We have authority to do so without need a major - most likely the case here these were Christmas stock so they would be wanting to get rid of it.”
“They’re promotional items and usually leftover stock so often the team have a level of discretion,” another former staff member agreed.
“It could have been the last few of a promotional item they wanted to get rid of. Could have been left over Christmas stock,” said a third commenter.
