In their ‘Pint of Science’ talks, experts from across the globe will meet locals and answer their questions in the convivial setting of a pub.
It doesn’t even matter that Dr Streed, who specialises in quantum physics — the study of tiny particles and understanding what they do — is allergic to hops.

“(Pint of Science) is to help satisfy people’s curiosity and to help feed that,” he said.
Dr Streed said that after a 20 minute talk about their specialty, bar flies were free to ask the speakers questions.
Dr Burns, whose work focuses on interactions between animals and humans, said the informal setting of a local pub meant more people might be encouraged to come out and ask questions.
“I think it brings the mystery of science and academics together, without the ivory towers,” she said. “Combining beer and science makes perfect sense to me.”
Scientists Dr Todd Houston and Dr Helene Cabanas will be answering medical-related questions tonight at the Parkwood Tavern from 6.30pm. Tickets cost $6.
