The 50+ cream named Original SIN (Skin Ink and Nurture) is designed to protect and nourish body art but it’s proving popular for other reasons.
Dracy Woods, one of the brains behind Original SIN, said the product had a range of benefits.
“We’ve been in the marketplace for three years now and we’re not just selling in chemists any more,” she said.
“We’re vegan friendly so quite a few vegan stores stock the cream ... and because there’s no alcohol in our product a lot of girls use it as a makeup primer.
“Athletes have also been loving it because it doesn’t sting the eyes or leave you with oily hands.”
She said more than 50 per cent of Australians had one or more tattoos.
“More people are sporting tattoos than ever before and the sun is the number one enemy of a tattoo,” she said.
“People spend thousands of dollars on tattoos expressing a story and they’re proud of their body art.
“But when exposed to the sun, tattoos begin to fade and blur.”
Tattoo artist Danielle Chisholm said it was important to protect one’s tattoos. “Any good tattoo artist will warn you about what can happen if you don’t protect your body art by wearing sunscreen when you’re outdoors,” Ms Chisholm said.
“I can definitely see this sort of product taking off in the next few years.”
Ms Woods said the company was working on expanding into North America in conjunction with a Brisbane-based tattoo after-care company called Dr Pickles.
