An American YouTuber living in Melbourne rips Aussie slang in hilarious new video
Since moving to Melbourne this year, American YouTuber Eddy Overgold is still trying to adjust to our ‘weird’ ways and make sense of Aussie slang.

During a podcast he hosts with friends, American YouTuber Eddy Overgold has hilariously recounted all the weird slang he’s encountered while living in Melbourne this year.
Overgold, who hosts the Waving the Red Flag podcast with two mates who are based in the US, highlighted a few iconic Aussie phrases in a TikTok video.
“They say ‘reckon’ a lot … which is like: ‘Are y’all cowboys? That’s so weird,” the Atlanta, Georgia native said.
“They got all different types of words and there’s a few that I’m like, ‘OK this is better’ but most of them I’m like this is dumb.”

Overgold also joked that Australians like to leave the word ‘the’ out of sentences, which continued to baffle him.
“Like you don’t go to the hospital you go to hospital,” he explained, while his friends burst into laughter.
Overgold’s friends were highly amused by it all until he mentioned ‘fortnightly’ pay.
“They say fortnight like they’re knights … they got all these old terms [they] don’t get paid biweekly they get paid fortnightly. No! It’s every other week on time,” Mr Overgold joked.
“My bank don’t even know what that means. Is that four score and seven years from now? Hold on when do I get my f---ing cheque?”

The TikTok clip has already racked up more than 26,000 views in less than a day and has received more than 2,500 likes and more than 250 comments.
Some Aussies took to the comment section to reiterate, “Yeah, nah, I reckon that reckon is a good word,” while others added, “As an Aussie, I found this funny”.
Overgold is the only one to be confused by Aussie slang. In fact, some Aussies are still confused by random Aussie slang at times.
The YouTuber’s rant comes after another TikTok user explained a phrase that some Aussies weren’t even aware of.
Enter “Cadbury”, a term coined Down Under for someone who is a “cheap drunk”, according to Urban Dictionary.
TikTok user @minorfauna – whose real name is Abbey Hansen – shared a video explaining where it came from.
Holding up the packaging, she pointed TikTok users to the confectionary company’s slogan “a glass and a half” – meaning a Cadbury only needs that much alcohol to get drunk.
Streams of comments from people all over Australia flooded the post declaring it was a revelation.
