OH NO HE DIDN’T

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate is famed for his self-styled, quirky vernacular — and he dropped a clanger this week.

At the Aquatic Centre for a pre-Commonwealth Games unveiling, he was asked who would win a swim race between him and Games Minister Kate Jones.

She piped up “me!” and Cr Tate agreed: “Absolutely, she’s fit, buoyant ...”

We’re not exactly what he meant by that but the good-natured Ms Jones laughed it off as a sheepish Cr Tate immediately apologised.

GLITTER

Original “Cooly kid” and soon-to-be retired three-time world surfing champion Mick Fanning for being humble and low-key, for being “relentless” in competition (as one commentator once described him), for fighting off that great white on live TV (somehow) and for being a co-founder of Balter, a great drop. Is there anything this guy can’t do?
