WHILE one third of the Triple M Breakfast team heads off to Tasmania, a new member who started her Triple M radio career in the Apple Isle, will be joining the crew in the new year.
The new Triple M Breakfast announcer Ali Plath – replacing longtime host Bridget ‘Bridge’ Brousard – will be revealed Wednesday morning.
Ms Plath, who is South East Qld born and bred, will join Spida and Flan after Bridge bid farewell after 11 years.
Ms Brousard is moving with her husband to Tasmania, the state her replacement broke through on Triple M breakfast show airwaves with Hobart radio great, Dave Noonan.
Ms Plath, 47, said she can’t wait to do the morning shift on the Gold Coast with the boys, who she describes as, “two of the greatest cohosts anyone could ask for”.
“I’m used to the early mornings, being in my fourth year of working the brekkie shift,” she said.
“Bridge has left me some big shoes to fill, but I know she will just want me to be myself, unapologetically, warts n’all!
“I’ve always loved radio, and when Triple M first asked me to pack up and move to do the show in Hobart back in 2016, I knew if I didn’t give it a crack I would regret it for the rest of my life.
“I know that’s exactly where Bridge is at with her life right now and I wish all the luck and love to her for her next chapter.”
Coast brekkie radio icon to call it quits
October 12: A popular Gold Coast breakfast radio host has revealed she will hang up her headphones at the end of the year.
Bridget ‘Bridge’ Brousard from 92.5 Triple M announced on Tuesday morning she would be heading to Flinders Island off the coast of Tasmania for a tree change.
Bridge spoke about her next move live on air, alongside co-hosts Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt and Sean ‘Flan’ Flanagan.
She said it was time for a new adventure.
“Talking to the Gold Coast every morning for over 15 years and sharing my life with our listeners has been the greatest gift,” she said.
“I have had so many life-changing moments with listeners that will stay with me forever.
“But it’s time to mix things up and moving to Flinders Island is definitely mixing things up.
“My husband and I are heading off the grid, to live on a little piece of paradise where you can see the sun rise and set over the ocean every day. We’ll build a few cabins and see what happens.”
Bridge said saying goodbye to her Triple M family would be “very hard”.
“They have been steadfast in their support, great sparring partners when needed and the two people I will miss the most,” she said.
Spida said his co-host deserved her “well-earned next adventure” after more than two decades of breakfast radio.
“I’ve been very lucky to walk into a job where I’ve had someone encourage and help me every step of the way,” he said.
“Bridge is a one of a kind in a very good way,”
Triple M content director Corey Kay said: “Bridge has called the Gold Coast home for over 15 years, rousing the city from sleep every weekday morning, and talking listeners through the highest of highs, the toughest of times, the most joyful and exciting of events and all the moments that matter and make this place so special.”
“We absolutely support her decision, and everyone at 92.5 Triple M says thank you Bridge – it’s been a privilege to work alongside you. Here’s to sleeping in,” he said.
In 2018 the beloved radio host was rescued by the RACQ CQ from a sinking yacht, about 30km off Mackay’s coast, near Keswick Island.
“I don’t know how any of us got out of it. I thought we were all gone. I’m not being dramatic,” she said at the time.
Bridge will leave on December 10, when the brekkie show breaks for Christmas.
