MORE than 170 free, fun and outside activities have been launched on the Gold Coast just in time for the weekend and second week of school holidays.

IT’S called Be Inspire and that’s just what organisers want from the Active and Healthy program launched yesterday at Bundall’s Evandale Park.

The aim is to get families and seniors out of the indoors and into the great outdoors these school holidays and beyond.

Southport mum of two Marie Malandaris readily admitted her family was guilty of spending too much time in front of the TV.

“It’s important to show the kids that they should get out and play everyday because it’s really easy to stay indoors everyday,” Mrs Malandaris said.

But activities on offer are not just for kids with plenty to entice parents and seniors too.

Senior Active Parks officer Sam Hughes said the program was about encouraging people to get out and incorporate more physical activity in their lives.

Mrs Malandaris said the program was also a great way for her children, and herself, to make new friends.

“It’s really good that events are free or low cost. When you have two kids it can get pricey over two weeks,” she said.

Deputy Mayor Donna Gates said the program has been held on the Gold Coast for 14 years.

“Last year we had 170 free or low cost activities that more than 120,000 Gold Coasters attended,” Mrs Gates said.

“Hopefully it will get some younger Gold Coasters off their computers and into our parks.”
