THEY say every picture tells a story.

A new photographic project by Griffith University photography lecturer Dr Isaac Brown aims to capture the people and places that make Logan a captivating melting pot of cultures and backgrounds.

The project began as a series of portraits for Griffith Review, a quarterly literary publication. Dr Brown is keen to extend the life of the project and intends to spend the next six months documenting Logan’s diverse community.

Dr Brown, who grew up in Loganholme and attended Calvary Christian College in Carbrook, said it was a privilege to be welcomed into the lives of people from all walks of life.

“Logan is such a vibrant, multicultural community — it is amazing to get the chance to document the lives of people from such diverse backgrounds,” he said.

“This is just a small slice of the cultural mix in Logan and combined with the region’s vibrant diversity, this creates a mix of connections and tensions — and a raft of organisations and policy initiatives working here to build community cohesion.”

There are 217 ethnicities represented in Logan. The photo essay touches on some of the individuals who connect and engage through networks.

Dr Brown said Griffith’s Logan campus provided him with a path to tertiary education. “Growing up in Logan, having a local university campus was so important. Attending uni here really gave me a foot up into photography,” he said.
