The Gold Coast is to become a romantic hotspot for South Korean tourists, as the city hosts an upcoming season of the country’s wildly successful dating reality show.
Cameras started rolling for season seven of ‘Love After Divorce’ on the Gold Coast at the weekend. The show will flaunt the tourism capital to a whopping audience of 23 million in South Korea via the Maeil Broadcasting Network, one of three main broadcasters.
Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn said: “It’s a testament to our city’s growing appeal as a destination of choice for international film and television producers.
“As our fourth largest international source market we know South Koreans love the Gold Coast and the filming of this hugely popular reality show here will only serve to showcase our city to an even broader audience in South Korea.”
Tourism Australia managing director Phillipa Harrison said more South Korean tourists were choosing Australia for holidays.
“Screen tourism is a great way to showcase destinations and it is something we are increasingly looking to leverage to highlight parts of Australia into key markets around the world,” Ms Harrison said.
“The popular South Korean entertainment program ‘Love After Divorce’ will feature the best of what the Gold Coast has to offer, from its natural beauty to high-end resorts and world class restaurants.”
Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said Korean visitors contributed $359.2m to the state economy in overnight visitor expenditure last year.
Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Craig Davidson said the show would establish Queensland as a romantic destination for Korean tourists, and estimated it would generate over $140 million in public relations value.
