A popular hinterland school with an innovative approach to learning has been the biggest improver in NAPLAN results over the last five years.
Data reveals that average results at Year 9 level are up 6.99 per cent at the Silkwood School in Mount Nathan between 2017 and 2022.
The 683-pupil school, which was founded by Valerie Campbell-Hogg 21 years ago, has built a strong reputation among parents for its unique approach that includes personalised learning programs for students.
It this year expanded from its Mt Nathan site, opening a dedicated Senior School campus at Laver Drive in Robina.
St Michael’s College in Merrimac was the next biggest improver at Year 9 level with a 3.05 per cent increase followed by Upper Coomera State College with an increase of 2.49 per cent.
Gold Coast Christian College recorded the biggest improvement for a primary school.
Average Year 5 NAPLAN results at the Reedy Creek school, which caters to just over 250 students, increased by 5.31 per cent over the past five years.
It was closely followed by two state schools, with Varsity College second best with an increase of 4.88 per cent followed by Surfers Paradise State School with an increase of 4.28 per cent.
The data was revealed in independent analysis which compared the five year change in NAPLAN results from 2017 and 2021 and revealed the schools which have improved their Year 5 and Year 9 student scores the most.
It was calculated by each school’s combined results for each NAPLAN subject in 2017 and compared to the same results in 2021.
On Tuesday the Bulletin revealed the Gold Coast’s top performing schools in NAPLAN results in the same period, with Somerset College in Mudgeeraba finishing in first place at both primary and secondary level.
