A cashed-up Gold Coast private school wants to build a giant multimillion-dollar innovation centre.
Hillcrest Christian College has lodged plans with Gold Coast City Council for the four-storey, 867.5sq m complex, which will be built at the heart of its Reedy Creek campus.
An existing playground will be demolished to make way for the building, which exceeds the area’s height limit by 3.75m.
“The proposed new building will provide additional educational facilities to the students and
staff of Hillcrest Christian College,” a planning report reads.
“The proposal does not increase the scale and intensity of the existing development and will therefore not result in increase in the existing number of students and staff.”
Its features will include a floor of design and technology classrooms, which will have work benches, a welding bay and woodwork room, as well as a laser cutter.
A second floor will house media and digital technology labs as well as a podcasting room, visual arts classrooms and a gallery.
The proposed development will be considered by council’s planning committee in coming months.
