Whoopi Goldberg has hit back at Meghan Markle’s claims she was treated like a bimbo on Deal Or No Deal. “It might be coming from you.”

Whoopi Goldberg has hit back at Meghan Markle after she claimed she was “reduced to this specific archetype” that was “all looks and little substance” during her stint on game show Deal Or No Deal.

The Duchess of Sussex made the comments during her latest Archetypes podcast episode while talking about being a suitcase girl in 2006 on the popular game show, saying she was treated like a “bimbo”.

But talk show panellist and Oscar-winner Goldberg gave a different perspective while discussing the podcast on the most recent episode of The View, Decider reports.

Goldberg, 66, said Meghan “doesn’t know” that people watching the hit game show “are thinking about you like that”.

According to the host, “They’re thinking, ‘I want the money.’”

She went on to suggest to Meghan, 41, that “the objectification might be coming from you and how you felt about how these women were being portrayed”.

Meghan says she was treated like a ‘bimbo’.

But Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t having it.

“That’s what you have to change because we’re performers,” Goldberg said.

“When you’re a performer, you take the gig. Sometimes you’re in a Bozo suit, sometimes you got a big nose, and this is just the way it is. We’re not journalists. We’re actors. We’re trying to get to another place.”

Sunny Hostin jumped in to describe the “archetype” Meghan was referring to as she pointed out that the show had “no big girls” and all they had were “little, skinny, tiny, pretty models”. However, Goldberg fired back: “But what did you think you were going to? That’s what the show was.”

“I agree with that. She took the job, she took the gig,” Hostin said. “I also appreciate that she said, ‘Well, this makes me feel bad, I’m gonna walk away,’ and she walked away.”

Goldberg then reiterated her point.

“If you see it and that’s how you feel, just maybe you don’t want to make the other women feel bad because maybe they’re trying to make a living, too.”

Meanwhile, a woman who starred alongside Meghan Markle on Deal Or No Dealhas fired up in response to the Duchess’ comments about working on the show.

Meghan’s claims led Real Housewives of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan, who had a stint on the game show at the same time, to disagree, asserting that the women chosen for the show were selected mainly because they had “the most outgoing and fun personalities”.

Jordan, 49, who starred in Deal or No Deal for four seasons from 2005 to 2009, said bosses “never treated them like bimbos” and that it helped provide “so many opportunities” for them. She went on to thank host Howie Mandel in the hopes of clearing up “any misunderstanding about the climate and environment on the Deal Or No Deal set.”

“For clarity – yes getting a modelling gig on a game show isn’t necessarily about your intellect, but every show the executive producers picked five models with the most outgoing and fun personalities to place mics on, who they knew would engage with the contestants,” she wrote in a post shared to her Instagram Stories.

“And Deal Or No Deal never treated us like bimbos. We got so many opportunities because of that show.”

She added: “If you show up and seize your moments, there’s no limits to what you can do with the opportunity.”
