With the iconic Blues on Broadbeach festival upon us, three-time Grammy nominee and legendary American blues troubadour Eric Bibb gave a sneak peek of what’s to come.

Mr Bibb, performing on Friday and Saturday, returned for his second year of the festival saying he “couldn’t resist” coming back.

“There’s a sea of blues lovers in front of you who are just embracing you and it’s a lovely feeling,

“The fact that it’s a free festival is a wonderful thing because people feel like they’re really getting something not just for free but with a lot of love for music behind it.” he said.

Deputy Mayor Donna Gates said she was looking forward to welcoming visitors to Broadbeach this weekend.

“We know that the bookings are incredibly strong and that last year over 140,000 people came, we’re expecting it will be an even higher number because of the line-up which is sensational, and a $20 million injection into our economy is always welcome,

“Experience Gold Coast has done a fantastic job in attracting Melissa Etheridge... and Eric Bibb, of course, his reputation precedes him and it’s just such an exciting opportunity for the city.” she said.

Festival Director of Blues on Broadbeach Mark Duckworth said this year is bigger and better than ever with over 70 artists in this year’s line-up.

“We would expect to see over 160,000 people here this weekend across the four days,

“We’ll be having Fat Freddy’s Drop coming out from New Zealand and they’re playing their only Australian show for the year here at blues on Broadbeach... we’ve been trying to get those guys out here for about five years,

“I encourage people to come down and not just look at the acts they know but also discover new and amazing acts as well.” he said.

Eric Bibb will perform on the Victoria Park stage at 6.30pm Friday night and on the main stage at 12.45pm on Saturday.

The first act at Blues on Broadbeach started at 11.45am on Thursday and the event will run through until Sunday night with the last act finishing at 11.30pm.
