Plans for a rustic tourist glamping attraction at Village Roadshow’s Oxenford precinct have again been delayed.

The Outback Lodge project will include tourist cabins, campsites and associated facilities for use by guests of the attraction.

Village Roadshow have written to the council asking for another extension to their approval to develop and clear the site after its most recent four-year extension lapsed.

The Gold Coast City Council approved land and vegetation clearing to make way for the development nearly a decade ago but it has consistently been delayed.

In its letter to the council, Village argue several factors have led to the required extension, which would expire in late 2025.

“The Applicant has committed to delivering a range of new attractions at the Oxenford

landholdings, including but not limited to a new 600-room hotel and function facility (and) as a result of these substantial investments, there have been consequential and necessary delays to the progress of the Outback Lodge development and associated operational works outlined in the application,” the letter reads.

“The impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing impacts of market changes and construction price increases have delayed the progress.

“Considering the challenges above, extending the currency period affords more time for the

completion of the necessary works onsite to be completed.”

Details are scarce but documents lodged with the council in 2015 reveal plans for an eco lodge facility at the Paradise Country park.

“The vision of the eco-cabin development is to integrate the built structures with the natural environment and existing ecological values,” it reads.

A decision is expected to be made in April.
