Three young filmmakers win big with their short film

These young Gold Coast’s filmmakers about to premiere their movie at one of the nation’s largest film festivals after being announced as finalists.

Tropfest winner inspired by teen anxiety

FIRST stop Junior Tropfest, next stop Los Angeles.

Coomera 14-year-old Oscar Bailey, along with his siblings Oliver, 12, and Orlando, 10, are the next generation of film stars.

The trio, who recently started their own film production company, Triple O Productions, will have their short film, Own You, premiered at Trop Jr on February 9 after being announced as one of 16 finalists.

Oscar said the film followed the story of 13-year-old Matt on a typical afternoon and the pressures teenagers face.

“The inspiration came from my 74-year-old Oma (grandmother) who gets up everyday and says, ‘life is good’, so it’s how you should be your own you and not let anyone change you,” he said.

The three boys are homeschooled, their mum Tina said it provided plenty of time for film making.

The trio have created four main short films, as well as several small pieces, with inspiration from their roadtrips to Cape York and Uluru.

While Oscar currently has the director role, he wants to become an actor in Australia or the USA, but hopes to make films with his brothers well into the future.

“Hopefully forever — as long as we are together and still enjoy making films,” he said.
