Project host Carrie Bickmore has torn strips off the Prime Minister for an awkward moment in a recent interview with his wife.

Speaking to 60 Minutes, Scott and Jenny Morrison addressed a number of issues surrounding the Prime Minister, including his controversial trip to Hawaii in the middle of the worst bushfire period in the nation’s history.

Bickmore fired up at a clip of Jenny Morrison single-handedly explaining how she thought the trip was a good idea for her family at the time, but later felt they had to get back to Australia once criticism ramped up.

Mrs Morrison said she was “more than sorry” for the saga, while the Prime Minister sat in silence.

“Did we make the right decision? I thought I was making the right decision for my kids. I obviously was wrong,” she recalled.

The Project host thought the gesture from the Prime Minister made him appear “weak”.

“She - and again, I don't know if it's part of the edit, but Jenny had to take the complete responsibility for the Hawaii situation,” she said on Monday night’s episode of The Project.

“She takes responsibility as he sat there. I think the whole thing made him look so weak. I felt like he sat there and smiled the whole time while his wife who is not the prime minister had to answer to all the mistakes.”

The Prime Minister sat mute and nodded sagely as Jenny Morrison took the blame.

Mrs Morrison told Karl Stefanovic she wished the damaging scandal “never happened”.

“We did disappoint. Did we make the right decision? I thought I was making the right decision for my kids,” she said.

“I obviously was wrong. Yes, we were over there seeing it and we were like... we really need to get home.

“I wish that had never happened. But I can’t change it.”

Mrs Morrison also criticised the former Australian of the Year after the recent incident at The Lodge, where Ms Tame was famously photographed during a frosty exchange with the PM.

Mrs Morrison quickly admitted she wished Tame had shown “manners and respect” and was “disappointed” by the whole exchange.

“I just found it a little bit disappointing, because we were welcoming her in our home,” she said.

“I just wish the focus had been on all the incredible people coming in. I respect people that want to change things, stand up for their beliefs, and are strong, but I still think there are manners and respect.”
