SOME viewers of The Voice were moved to tears last night as a 23-year-old contestant revealed her heartbreaking backstory.
Sarah Stone from Victoria broke down in a piece to camera on the Channel Nine show as she spoke about the disappearance of her mum 17 years ago.
“When I was six years old my mum dropped me off at school and that was the last time that we saw her,” Sarah said on the show.
“She completely disappeared off the face of the earth. Still to this day no one really knows what happened with my mum so that is always something that I guess is a question in the back of all of our minds.”
According to Missing Persons, Linda Anne Grimstone was last seen at 3.50pm on September 4 in 2000 at Powers Lookout in Victoria.
The following day her abandoned vehicle was found in bushland bearby but Linda was nowhere to be seen.
“My dad struggled at first with having to lose his soulmate and his partner and I watched him go through that and that was really devastating,” Sarah said on The Voice.
“It was such a hard time for all of us. But he is the bravest, most courageous person that I’ve ever met and he is the rock of our family.”
As a tribute to her dad, Sarah sang Paolo Nutini’s Autumn in her blind audition in a mesmerising performance that saw all four coaches turn their chairs.
“I’d love to know why you chose that particular song?” asked Boy George at the end of her performance.
“That song is just one of those songs and every single time that I sing it, it just brings me to tears,” Sarah told the Culture Club star.
“It hits you in the heart. It’s a song that means so much to me ... It reminds me so much of my dad. I unfortunately lost my mother when I was very young so my dad has been a really strong supporting structure in my life.”
Sarah went on to join Team George as viewers took to social media to praise the young singer for her emotional performance.
