Real Housewives of Sydney newcomer Martine Chippendale has revealed the heartbreaking reason for her dramatic exit midway through filming of the hit reality show.

Tuesday’s episode of the BINGE series showed the glamorous star walking out mid-scene during a girls’ trip in New Zealand.

Her castmates, Terry Biviano, Sally Obermeder, Dr Kate Adams, Victoria Montano and Krissy Marsh, were left shocked as Martine up and left without any explanation.

“I can’t with this group. I want to go. I just want to go,” she told producers from a back room at a margarita bar in Queenstown, where the ladies where holidaying.

“I didn’t sit on a plane from Sydney to Queenstown to then stand in uncomfortable shoes in a cocktail bar, listening to women interrupt each other,” Martine later said in a confessional. “This is boring for me. I’m not doing it.”

But it appears there was a deeply personal reason why the Double Bay resident was not keen to mingle with her castmates. In an interview with news.com.au, the 42-year-old revealed that her mother was battling illness at the time.

“There’s obviously things that happen as part of filming and things that happen off camera,” she told us.

“I would say that there’s a couple of things that happened. I was away from my family for the first time and the group has its tensions, and sometimes it’s been hard to be with the group when there was a lack of goodwill between some people.”

“And some things happened in my personal life relating to my mother’s illness, and that wasn’t something that I had spoken about with the group because I was just getting to know them.”

Sadly, her mum’s health quickly deteriorated, and days after Martine returned to Sydney from New Zealand, her mother passed away.

“My mother actually died a week after I left New Zealand,” Martine reveals.

“So it was a combination of what was happening in my personal life with my mother’s illness and being away from my family and struggling with some of the tensions within the group.

“I’m a Taurus, so I’m pretty strong minded. I came in and left pretty quickly. I don’t mess around. If I don’t like something, I’m happy to exit.”

After her walkout, Martine’s best friend in the group, Victoria, was the first to comfort her, but Martine did not want to talk and requested her microphone be taken off.

“To be clear, no one did anything wrong by me that evening, so I think that they all had genuine concern for why I had left,” she says. “I think everybody was supportive of me and wanted to find out what was happening.”

There was much speculation within the group that conversations about Botox and butt implants at the bar were too lowbrow for Martine and she wanted out. Not the case at all, she insists.

“I don’t mind that. To be fair, Botox and bum lifts are actually fun topics. I think that’s actually fun to talk about,” the mum-of-two says.

“But I was probably just not in the right head space, and I felt as though I probably just needed to have some time on my own.”

According to Martine, her walkout is nothing compared to what’s to come for the remainder of the season.

“New Zealand’s not even the pinnacle of the drama. That’s nothing,” she promises.

“I think my biggest revelation about the show is that not every issue in life can be resolved,” she adds. “But what I would hope and what I would like for any instance in life is that people can come to situations with a base level of respect. I think that would always be helpful in any situation.”
