Exclusive: Screen queen Nicole Kidman has been crowned by Byron locals – gifting The Undoing star with a dazzling boho headpiece, befitting her status as royalty in the NSW hinterland town.

The Hollywood superstar, husband Keith Urban and daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, sprinkled their magic over the Twilight markets at Mullumbimby earlier this month, with the Grammy-winning country singer dropping $200 in the hats of local buskers; while his style icon wife bought up dresses and accessories at Summer’s Dreaming, an online and pop-up fashion stall run by local designer Meagan Summer Keller.

Kidman told The Sunday Telegraph her crowning moment – which featured gem stones and intricate beading – reflected the loving embrace she’s received from locals, after the Oscar winner brought jobs and excitement to the area with production of her latest TV project, Nine Perfect Strangers – co-starring US comedy fave, Melissa McCarthy and Offspring darling, Asher Keddie.

“They gave me a crown and I bought a couple of those beautiful headdresses from [Keller] for the girls. I mean, the Byron atmosphere, … the people are what make Byron,” she said.

“I mean, you have the scenery, but by gosh, those people are just so loving and laid back.”

It was Urban who took this happy snap of his wife in the bedazzled headpiece, before the family went on to buy dream catchers for the girls from another local vendor.

Keller was moved by the celebrity couple’s support of local businesses which have done it tough in the COVID downturn.

“It’s been a tough year all around for [Byron], so for them to actually come out to the market, and support it the way they did, it meant the world.”

The delighted designer added: “While the rest of the world is still battling the virus, I think everybody should have a crown because it makes you feel your magic.”

Kidman had to draw on all her staying powers last week, keeping up a tight production schedule for the Liane Moriaty-written series, while holding up her end of international promotion for The Undoing – co-starring Hugh Grant and Donald Sutherland and streaming on BINGE from tomorrow.

“That was going to come out in April, so they’ve held it til now because we couldn’t get it done because of the lockdown,” Kidman explained.

Playing psychologist Grace Fraser in the murder mystery, Kidman dazzles in a wardrobe of lust-have gowns and bespoke coats created especially for her by the drama’s design team.

“They said, ‘we want it to be like a dark fairytale,’ so there’s that fairytale quality to it. That’s why when I’m walking through Central Park, it’s like walking through the forest and there’s all these metaphors that they layered in through the clothes … the visual aspects of the storytelling, which I would love and go, ‘wow, you women are talented.’”

Kidman is expected to keep filming in NSW at least until Christmas, relishing every day back home and working.

“Obviously Chris Hemsworth lives here, but we’ve know that [magic] for years and we’ve fallen for it. It’s such a special place.”
