Jamie Foxx revealed his mystery hospitalisation last year was due to a “brain bleed that … led to a stroke.”
The comedian tearfully revealed his diagnosis on his Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was, reportsPage Six.
The actor, 56, wiped his eyes while telling the emotional story to the audience, saying, “Please, Lord, let me get through this.”
Foxx has previously only attributed his health scare to a “bad headache,” which he reiterated to fans.
During that time, the Oscar winner was taken to a doctor in Georgia who gave him a cortisone shot and sent him on his way.
“What the f**k is that?” the Back in Action star asked. “I don’t know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that’s half a star.”
Foxx’s sister Deidra Dixon subsequently took him to Piedmont Hospital, where he said the “angel” staff “saved [his] life” and “put [him] back together again.”
He explained that a doctor told his sibling “horrible news” about his condition at the time, revealing, “He’s having a brain bleed that has led to a stroke. If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him.’”
After his surgery, Dixon was told, “We didn’t find where it was coming from, but he is having a stroke. He may be able to make a full recovery but it’s going to be the worst year of his life.”
Foxx noted that he didn’t “see the light” during his procedure — but he remembered feeling “oddly peaceful” in a “tunnel.”
However, the Blame It singer quipped, “It was hot in that tunnel. S**t, am I going to the wrong place in this motherf**ker? Because I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the devil like, ‘Come on.’”
When Foxx came to 20 days later, he was in a wheelchair.
“I was like, ‘Why the f**k am i in a wheelchair?’ I’m just coming out of s**t,” he recalled, admitting the whole scenario felt “like a f**king prank.”
News broke in April 2023 of Foxx’s hospitalisation, with Corinne calling it a “medical complication” in an Instagram statement at the time.
By the following month, the 30-year-old confirmed that her father was “out of the hospital … recuperating” in what was later revealed to be a physical rehabilitation centre in Chicago.
While Foxx has since remained vague about the circumstances leading to his health scare, Corinne recently told Vogue she and fiance Joe Hooten celebrated their 2023 engagement at the treatment centre.
Foxx walked his daughter down the aisle at her wedding in September of the following year.
