Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery is moving ahead with his directorial debut on a film titled The Engagement Party.
The actor is not yet decided however whether or not he will appear on screen in the movie that will shoot in NSW next year.
“I’m not looking for this to be an engine for my acting career at all,” Montgomery, who played Billy Hargrove in global hit Stranger Things, told Confidential.
“I want to direct and I’m serious about directing, so I’m taking it seriously and not trying to use it as something else.”
Montgomery, 29, who also appeared in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, spoke to Confidential to launch his new campaign for Politix titled Leading Man.
He has just returned from the Toronto International Film Festival where his film, Went Up The Hill, premiered.
Now though, it he is bunkering down to work on The Engagement Party, for which Nash Edgerton has signed on as a producer.
“It is a four-hander, a chamber piece like a play that takes place in one location with only four people over one night,” he explained.
“So if I put myself in play, I just want to know that I can pull it off. The story and the script is the most pressing thing but I am pumped and I feel like I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and have such a great team I feel super grateful for.”
As for the Politix campaign, Montgomery said: “More than anything, it (the idea) is just a continuation of what it is being a man in society. If you’re on film and people watch you and people look up to you, you have a responsibility to fulfil that identity and to be responsible in return and be sensitive so I was really excited when the team at Politix pitched this next evolution, this idea to me.”
