AWARD-winning journalist Neil Breen has hit the 4BC Breakfast airwaves, with Gold Coasters already warming to his style of presenting.
Taking over from ‘shock jock’ Alan Jones at the start of June, Mr Breen left Sydney for his hometown of Brisbane to deliver an all-new, all-local show every morning from 5.30am.
“I’ve already got stuck into many issues on the Gold Coast, including employment and the borders closures and I know the people of Brisbane and the Gold Coast understand each other’s issues,” he said.

Thrown in the deep end, with only a few weeks to get his head around his new role, Mr Breen said it only took listeners two days to warm to his on-air style.
“For two days I think people were in a bit of shock, losing their veteran broadcaster after 35 years, but then all of a sudden people understood and embraced the change and the emails and messages of support came flooding in.”
With a soft spot for Northcliffe Beach and the Gold Coast’s iconic half marathon and Magic Millions event, Mr Breen said with “great leadership” the city had the chance to reinvent itself as the “events centre” of Australia.
“The Gold Coast has done some wonderful things and it truly is the perfect place for more high-profile events such as the Logies,” he said.
“It’s great to be back in Brisbane and to be able to offer a local show where people can have someone who understands the issues in their area.”
Mr Breen’s wife, journalist Elizabeth Meryment, and their three children will join him from Sydney at the end of the year.
