UP-AND-COMING Gold Coast social-media star Monique Castrission is breaking the influencer mould by inspiring people to embrace their natural bodies.
Ms Castrission, 21, currently works full time at a radiology clinic and owns two small businesses while running her Instagram (14.1k followers), Tik Tok (89.1k followers) and YouTube (8.65k followers) accounts.
“Social media is one of my jobs and it is basically never ending,” she said.
“It takes a lot more work than people think.
“A YouTube video can take more than eight hours when you add up all the time for filming, editing and uploading.”
Ms Castrission started her social media career at 17 as a YouTube personality doing vlogs of her day-to-day life and slowly transitioned into sharing her fitness journey while competing in her first bikini competition.
“I had put on and lost 15kg and it opened my mind to the fact that self-love really is completely mental and has nothing to do with the way you look,” she said
“I want to create the positive and real content I wish I could have seen when I was younger.”
Ms Castrission said time management was key to juggling her two small businesses, Blind Pickup (a drinking card game) and Avenue Beauty (selling press-on nails she designs).
“I would love to say my week is planned to perfection and I can know what to expect each week but honestly my life is kind of just an organised mess and sometimes I am up to 1am just to get things done,” she said.
“I find writing a to-do list at the beginning of the week is the most beneficial thing for me.
She said her family, friends and fitness all were contributing factors on why she continued to do what she loved.
“Having a really understanding partner, family and friends is so important too,” Ms Castrission said.
“Because I am working all the time I don’t get to see them as much as I would ideally like to but I know in the long term I will be grateful for this sacrifice.”
