A Gold Coast instagrammer and former I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant says he was the victim of a bashing while visiting Sydney.
Robina resident David ‘The David’ Subritzky was visiting Sydney for the weekend and catching up with friends including Love Island Season three winner Tina Provis.
While in Sydney Mr Subritzky said he was in a takeaway store when “a guy came over to us and was abusing us”.
He said he was “getting called a f**got” and was “bashed”, leaving him with a busted lip and swollen jaw.
He shared photos of blood streaming from his face soon after the attack, captioned with “people are gross”.
Mr Subritzky said police and ambulance were called but the man who bashed him had ran off.
“It’s crazy that people still use the word f**got,” he said.
“It’s horrible.
“People need to educate themselves it’s okay to be gay.
“People need to not use the word f**got, for me it’s as equivalent as saying the N word to a black person.”
On Tuesday he said: “Thanks for all the lovely messages, I’m actually all good just a bit swollen”.
“Shit happens. I’ve honestly had the best weekend in Sydney.
“No dickhead’s going to take that away.”
Mr Subritzky addressed those who attacked him and said: “Call me whatever you like. Bash me. I’m not going to change for a dog.”
Friends of Mr Subritzky were heartbroken to hear the news and took to their social media to spread the message.
“Calling someone a faggot and then proceeding to bash them for being authentically themselves is absolutely disgusting,” Tommy Schroeter said.
“This community LGBTIQA+ is being scrutinised daily for being themselves.
“What has happened to David shouldn’t be skipped over.
“It needs to be taken seriously.”
Mr Schroeter said those who stood by and watched the incident should be “ashamed of themselves”.
“Please I urge everyone to be kind, be accepting and be respectful,” he said.
“This world is scary enough without hatred being thrown into the mix.
“This sort of behaviour scares me.”
