Meghan is ‘crowned’ with an Instagram filter in unseen footage from South Africa tour

Unseen footage has emerged of a giggling Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, during her recent tour of South Africa, which shows her in a different light.

Meghan Markle ‘crowned’ with Instagram filter

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, may have worn a tiara to her wedding to Prince Harry, but it’s been revealed the royal wore a very different kind of crown during her recent tour of South Africa.

On the final day of the royal tour, Meghan met hair artist and hat designer Nikiwe Dlova at a reception celebrating creative industries at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Johannesburg, with the Duchess trying out an Instagram filter featuring one the artist’s headpiece designs.

Meghan looked into the camera, activating the filter to place the crown on her head. The royal giggled, realising that the image resembled the colourful headpiece that Dlova was holding. The filter then changed to more of Dlova’s designs.

“She loved It!!” Dlova captioned her Instagram post. “When she looked away she realised it was the same headpiece I was holding! This is an experience I will never forget!!!”

Prior to her engagement to Harry, the former actress was an active social media user but deleted her personal social media accounts after her engagement to the royal.

“Ms Markle is grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years,” a royal spokesman said at the time. “However as she has not used them for some time she has taken the decision to close them.”

Meghan’s departure from social media was not unexpected, given members of the royal family don’t tend to have their own social media accounts (Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie being notable exceptions).

Harry and Meghan enjoyed a successful tour to South Africa where they met with local schoolchildren, various charities, and Nelson Mandela’s widow, Graca Machel.

Harry previously met Mandela’s third wife while visiting the country in 2015.

Ms Machel is a prominent politician in her own right and was also married to the first president of her homeland of Mozambique, Samora Machel, before he died in a plane crash while in office.

The duo have always been keen to honour her late husband, who died in 2013, and they appeared at the Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition at the Southbank Centre in London last year.

The royal pair also visited a township near Johannesburg, where they toured a youth employment hub to see the work being done to get young people into jobs, with plans to create one million new jobs.

The unemployment rate of people aged 15-24 in South Africa was 55 per cent in the first quarter of this year.

The overall unemployment rate was 29 per cent.
