IT’S all fun and games until someone throws the bread.
What was meant to be a family-friendly outing in Fort Collins, Colorado, quickly escalated when members of the crowd at festival Taste of Fort Collins started hurling slices of bread onto the stage while Smash Mouth was performing.
Lead vocalist of the 90s rock band Steve Harwell was so enraged with the bread-throwers that he totally lost the plot and had to be subdued by security. The entire expletive-filled rant, which lasted about three minutes, was captured on video.
“You throw one more piece of sh*t on the f*cking stage,” he can be heard saying in the clip.
“I’m gonna come find your ass, I’m gonna beat your ass, whoever the f*ck you are out there, OK?”
Fans started booing as the 48-year-old musician continued to hurl insults their way, and he eventually walked off stage before the encore.
Not even Harwell’s own band, with a miserable attempt at their hit single All Star, could calm the furious frontman down.
As for how the tossers came to be in possession of so much soft, fluffy ammunition, USA Today reports: “Loaves of bread were being given away for free at one of the Taste of Fort Collins vendor booths.”
The band’s set was reportedly the final act of Taste of Fort Collins, a three-day food and music festival that claims to be “a family-friendly celebration”.
Yikes, imagine if they were handing out party favours that could actually do some damage. Free apples, anyone?
